Dad-of-three dies after sand tunnel collapses on him in ‘freak accident’

A dad-of-three has died after a sand tunnel collapsed and buried him alive.

The "freak accident" occurred on Saturday in Florida when Lee Goggins was digging a hole at the beach with his family. The sand tunnel collapsed on the 35-year-old Dallas man leaving him in critical condition. He has since passed away. Following the accident, Goggins' family set up a GoFundMe page to pay for his medical bills. His sister, Rachel Goggins-Burt, asked donators to keep Lee's wife Courtney, and their three children - Jace, Colton, and Rylee - in their prayers. She wrote:

"Our family was just starting off on vacation when we stopped in at the beach in St. Augustine, FL to let the kids burn some energy. Lee was building a tunnel in the sand when it collapsed on him."

Goggins was in a coma for two days before succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday. Tributes continue to come in for Lee. His sister's GoFundMe page has received almost $40,000 in donations. Images via GoFundMe.
